In Mauritius there are no restrictions on foreign currency, travellers' cheques and any other financial instruments. There are numerous banks and places for foreign exchange - including many hotels. ATMs exist in many parts of the island, but can be limited in the remote areas.
Mauritius Currency
The currency in Mauritius is the Mauritius Rupee (MUR). 100 cents equals 1 Mauritian Rupee. There are coins of 5; 20 and 50 cents as well as 1; 5; 10 and 20 Mauritian Rupees (Rs). When it comes to notes, there are 25; 50; 100; 200; 500; 1,000 and 2,000 Mauritian Rupee notes.

Credit Cards
Credit cards are normally accepted by banks as well as most hotels, tourist shops and restaurants. MasterCard and Visa are most popular.

The common banks are State Bank Of Mauritius, Mauritius Commercial Bank, HSBC and Barclays.

9:15am to 11:15am (some banks)
Banks are also open at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport when international flights arrive or depart.
