Grand River South East

Take a ferry up the river to a magnificent gorge and waterfall. For a few rupees some local boys will jump the 30m drop to the depths below. Swim in the river, picnic on its shores and walk to other waterfalls further up the river.


La Val Nature Park

A sugar estate that is now also turning to agriculture provides some interesting information and enjoyable walks around the valley. There are also deer, sheep, a mini-aquarium and fishing facilities.


Mahebourg

This is one of the main fishing villages in Mauritius. There is a navel museum as well as craft market.

Filled with history, art, culture and cuisine, this is a wonderful place to visit. The art museum, which is set in an old sugar factory, displays the work of Yvette Maniglier who was the last private student of Matisse. Here you will find authentic Mauritian cuisine.
